The Intermediate Materials Engineer will provide technical support across the company on complex materials-based issues. This role will support material traceability and management of Trans Mountain assets, material testing, and related fitness-for-service engineering assessment. Additionally, this role will also assist the development and continual assessment of Asset Integrity's Pipeline Integrity Threat Summary (PiTS).

This role is classified as “Office First” under the company’s Where We Work policy, and the successful incumbent will work full-time out of the company’s Calgary office. This position reports to the Lead Materials Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and support across the company on metallurgical and materials engineering topics, utilizing specialized knowledge to conduct or assist with materials testing, materials traceability and quality control, fit-for-service engineering assessment.
  • Perform technical review of the turnover record from pipeline construction, including but not limited to pipe MTRs, coating inspection records, bend information package, mainline valve information, hydrotesting records.
  • Perform review of records input in the material traceability/ management database. Support building and maintenance of materials properties database for pipeline system.
  • Manage Trans Mountain's routine material testing projects, including feature testing, material testing, toughness testing, by selecting service providers, negotiating Scopes of Work and associated costs.
  • Draft various engineering assessments as request, including fitness-for-service assessments for metal loss, dent crack features, pipeline assessment.
  • Support the development and continual assessment of Asset Integrity's Pipeline Integrity Threat Summary (PiTS).
  • Support Trans Mountain's technical regulatory responses by providing subject matter expert response, ensuring compliance, and addressing complex technical matters with precision and professionalism.
  • Support Trans Mountain's contribute to Joint Industry Projects and actively engage with external industry associations and workgroups to drive advancements, enhance efficiencies, and expand knowledge across the company and the broader industry.
