Job Description
In this role, students support the design, analysis, and delivery of complex defence systems, helping ensure they meet technical requirements and perform reliably in land-based operational environments. These positions provide hands-on experience across core systems engineering activities, including reviewing and analysing requirements, contributing to system and software design, supporting technical documentation, and assisting with verification and validation efforts. Students gain exposure to systems deployed across vehicles, headquarters, and other operational platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and review of system requirements, interface specifications, and use cases, helping ensure clarity and technical accuracy.Support system and software design activities, including trade studies, modelling, and technical analyses, under guidance from senior engineers.Assist with verifying system designs through test plans, simulations, and evaluation of results.Participate in documenting technical analyses, design decisions, and project deliverables, maintaining clear and organized technical records.Help investigate and resolve system issues, including tracking problem reports and supporting resolution activities.Collaborate closely with engineers, software developers, product teams, and stakeholders across the organization.Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including process enhancements and supporting best practices in systems engineering.Qualifications
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical/scientific field.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.Enthusiastic, motivated, and willing to learn while taking ownership of assigned tasks.Assets
Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, Power Shell, or Java.Familiarity with requirements management or defect tracking tools (, DOORS, JIRA).Exposure to system modelling, block diagrams, or model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.Understanding of verification, validation, and system-level testing processes.Experience with hardware/software interfacing or embedded systems.It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations.

Compensation
The expected hourly rate for this position is $ – $ Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. As part of student placement, you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
