CIMA+ has an immediate opening for a Senior Transportation Design Engineer to join our growing team in Calgary. We’re looking for an individual who is eager to be challenged and ready to contribute to a dynamic, well-established, multidisciplinary Canadian engineering firm. Over the past decade, CIMA+ has expanded its operations across Western Canada, building both a strong reputation and a robust project portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the technical design, layout and calculations of urban and rural roadways and highways.

  • Lead and participate in the creation of final design deliverables, technical reports and memoranda, and manage schedules and time allocation on the technical design tasks.

  • Work closely with the engineering and senior technical staff to develop high-quality and technically accurate transportation related designs.

  • Lead and mentor junior staff in geometric design and 3D roadway modeling using software such as AutoCADD Civil 3D. Provide guidance and quality oversight to transportation design team.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of tender documents and project cost estimates, and be accountable for the designs, tender documents and calculations prepared for the design team and client.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering, with 7+ years of experience in the engineering and construction industry; current ASET or APEGA P.Eng certification preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for the development of engineering designs and drawings.
  • Experienced with cloud based platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with clients and teams using platforms like Microsoft Teams; adaptable to evolving technology and software tools.
  • Strong Design and modeling experience with all aspects of highway and intersection design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, quantities, cost estimates, and documentation). Specific experience working with multiple inter connected corridors, creating surfaces for use in construction, calculating 2D and 3D quantities, and creating output files are desired assets.
  • A sound understanding of drafting standards and their application to the design process is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with Alberta Transportation, City of Calgary, TAC, and other regional and municipal design standards. Ability to quickly adapt to design standards and specification of other jurisdictions.
  • Ability to estimate design level of effort, meet milestone schedule deliverables and implement mitigation measures as required.
  • Strong technical writing, thorough research capabilities and analytical skills to effectively address complex problems to determine a solution and present to internal staff, key stakeholders, management, and clients
