Junior Structural Designer - Restoration

Base pay range: CA $63,000/yr - CA $73,000/yr

Entuitive is looking for a Junior Structural Designer, with experience or an interest in restoration of existing structures, based in our Calgary office. The role will be involved in projects that span the assessment, investigation, and restoration of structural systems for existing buildings. This position will offer the opportunity for both office and field experience working collaboratively with the project team from initial evaluation through design to construction completion.

What will you do?

  • Support the assessment of existing structural components of a building, including concrete, steel, wood and masonry elements. Preparation of reporting based on observations, investigation key findings, and prepare recommendations remediation.
  • Communicate directly with the client to ensure their understanding of our findings and recommendations and assist with prioritization of recommended work. Ensure client's expectations are understood.
  • Support the preparation of remedial packages to be solicited for pricing from qualified contractors in the industry. Includes the solution design development, detail sketching and working with BIM staff, generation of technical specifications and tender documentation.
  • Support the tender process, including sourcing contractors to price on the project, chairing pre‑tender meetings, and development of addenda to support the tender process.
  • Provide contract administration during the project construction schedule, including field review, submittal and shop drawing reviews, preparation of site instructions, and project schedule and project change management (change orders, invoicing review, etc.).
  • Communicate with both the client and contractor on the project. Support in any project conflicts.
  • Learn from intermediate and senior staff and further your technical understanding of design.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as Entuitive may assign from time to time.

What do you need to succeed?

  • An applicable degree or diploma from an accredited school.
  • A new graduate with co‑op experience, or up to 2 years of hands‑on construction experience and/or work with existing facilities is considered an asset.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to work with people at all levels including project stakeholders and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities and deliverables on an ongoing basis.
  • Interest in applying new technology to support project processes.
  • A working knowledge of construction materials and products used in building construction, with a focus on concrete repair and restoration, corrosion protection, traffic toppings, expansion joints and waterproofing systems.
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset but not required.
