Overview:The Transmission Business Unit (TBU) is actively hiring a Control Center Operator to join the team. The Operator supports 24/7 remote pipeline operations from the Calgary Control Center, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient system performance. The role monitors and controls the pipeline, directs emergency response efforts, maintains communication with facilities, and provides operational updates while continuously optimizing operations.
Pembina's Transmission Pipeline assets have developed through the strategic acquisition of key natural gas, ethane, and condensate transportation infrastructure assets in prolific gas producing regions in western Canada and the United States. These pipelines provide customers with access to premium markets primarily on a fee‑for‑service basis under long‑term contracts through long‑haul pipelines.
The successful candidate must reside within 100 km of Calgary, AB, and be available for shift work in a 24/7 Control Centre operation.
Responsibilities may include but not limited to:- Champion Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the Life Saving Rules.
- Operate pipelines remotely using SCADA systems to monitor and respond to events.
- Monitor pipeline conditions to ensure dewpoint temperature remains above pipeline temperatures.
- Detect and respond immediately to any leaks.
- Communicate with Field Operations for alarm response and equipment performance, including initiating callout work orders.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including DOT OQ and Control Room Management (CRM).
- Act as the main operational point of contact with Connecting Pipeline Operators and Common Stream Operators.
- Respond to Gas Quality events to ensure safety and maintain facility integrity.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs (eLogs) of pipeline events during shift rotations, including thorough shift handovers.
- Support the team during Utility Position rotations.
- Monitor and respond to power dispatch requirements for the Alberta Electrical System Operator (AESO).
- Foster and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
- Demonstrate learning agility by quickly adapting to new technologies, processes, and regulatory changes, and proactively seeking opportunities to enhance operational knowledge and skills.
- 3+ years of major pipeline experience.
- Technical College Diploma in a gas industry‑related field or a journeyman ticket in instrumentation, power engineering, or mechanical designation.
- Proven ability to perform in high‑pressure environments.
- Ability to work shift schedules.
- Strong understanding of SCADA systems and pipeline hydraulics.
- General knowledge of major pipeline facilities (e.g., gas turbine compression, natural gas extraction, thermodynamic behavior of natural gases).
- Broad understanding of the North American natural gas business.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong team player with high learning agility and a demonstrated ability to adapt to change, learn quickly, and apply new knowledge effectively.
