Little Scholars Inc. is looking for an energetic Kindergarten teacher to prepare our students for entry into first grade. The kindergarten teacher’s responsibilities include designing and conducting lessons that advance students’ social and educational abilities. The candidate will be able to demonstrate good behavior that is conscientious and responsible and maintain a professional appearance.

The candidate will be responsible for fostering the intellectual and social development of children in the first phase of their kindergarten experience. The candidate will provide the tools and the environment for students to develop into responsible adults.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach children in a classroom at the kindergarten level.
  • Preparing and presenting lessons that facilitate students’ cognitive, social, and emotional development.
  • Plan, evaluate, and assign lessons.
  • Ensuring that you always have sufficient classroom supplies.
  • Introduce children to mathematics, language, science, and social studies.
  • Teach letter recognition, phonics, numbers, and awareness of nature and science.
  • Creating a learning environment that is safe and nurturing.
  • Supervising children during lessons, mealtime, and on the playground.
  • Assisting students to resolve conflict with others.
  • Monitoring and notifying caregivers of students’ progress.
  • Notifying the Director and caregivers of accidents or other noteworthy incidents that occur while students are under your supervision.
  • Attending meetings with staff and caregivers, as required.
  • Accompanying students on field trips, as needed.
  • Use games, music, artwork, films, books, computers, and other tools to teach basic skills.
  • Use play and hands-on teaching.
  • Perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Develop incentives to keep participants in class.
  • Work with program coordinators to ensure initiatives are being met.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, preferably with a focus on early childhood development.
  • Starting Level or Fluent French or Spanish writing and speaking would be an asset.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Proven experience working with young children, ideally in a similar role.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
  • Valid driver’s license with own transport is advantageous.
  • CDE first aid training.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Energetic, nurturing, and flexible disposition.
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
  • Sensitive to First Nations culture and educational issues;
  • An ethic of service to students, colleagues, and community.
