Adjunct Instructor - Daytime in-person Power Engineering Labs

The RoleWe are currently looking to grow our pool of Power Engineering Instructors to facilitate daytime in-person deliveries of 4th Class and 5th Class Power Engineering Labs. These labs typically run Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and are typically offered consistently over the Fall and Winter semesters (September through April). Our 5th Class (100-hour) lab typically runs 2.5 weeks in length, while our 4th Class (200-hour) lab typically runs 5 weeks in length.
These courses are built to suit a diverse learner population, ranging from students upgrading foreign credentials to those changing careers mid-life. Our learners are mature, focused, and want to be challenged.
Note: We are currently building our talent pool for potential contracts during the Academic Year. This is a casual contract. Hours are not guaranteed; candidates who are successful in joining the pool will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced Power Engineering professional who values flexibility and enjoys contributing to the development of future engineers. This role is well-suited to individuals who can commit to full-time availability during key periods of the academic year while appreciating the freedom of a casual contract outside those times.

During each engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Presenting lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
- Maintaining records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline
- Managing the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
- Showing personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
- Providing ongoing support, guidance and advice to students
- Showing strong collaboration and communication skills with other instructors as required
- Attending all SAIT training as required
- Achieving of School initiatives and Objectives
- Being an active and engaged member of the School
- Adhering to all safety legislation, guidelines, procedures and safety standards as required for all face-to-face facilitation
- Maintaining contact with relevant industry sectors
- All other duties as required for the position
- Valid 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate registered with ABSA
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience working as a Power Engineer in a 2nd or 1st class plant, with a focus on specific areas including: operation of boilers, turbines, refrigeration systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other industrial equipment
- Well-developed presentation and communication skills (written and oral)
