Position: Spring 2026 Term 5 BScN NRSG450, Drayton Valley Sessional Nursing Instructors, Faculty of Nursing

The University of Calgary, Faculty of Nursing is seeking Sessional Nursing Instructors to teach undergraduate BScN level courses within Drayton Valley for the Spring Term (May/June) as follows:

Successful applicants must be available for the full duration of the term. Teaching schedules vary and include daytime and evening shifts, Monday through Friday.

BScN Term 5: NRSG
450 Consolidated Practicum (6 weeks)
  • Clinical Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday (8hr, off campus, rotating days/evenings)
  • Lab Monday

We are seeking applicants, particularly those with previous nursing education practice experience. Practice education occurs at clinical sites, on campus, and occasionally through online delivery.

Sessional Instructors are provided with exceptional orientation, mentorship, and ongoing professional development. The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule

Teaching Responsibilities
  • Work effectively with groups of students on-campus or in online settings
  • Participate in team meetings related to the practice course and faculty governance
  • Participate in student assessment and evaluations
  • Seek excellence in teaching by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues
  • Encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence informed practice
Qualifications

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. A Master’s degree is preferred, although candidates with BN/BScN preparation will be considered.

Applied Experience
  • Current practice experience related to semester focus
  • Broad experience across a variety of areas
  • Experience in clinical teaching, mentoring and supervision of students
Enhanced Abilities
  • Application of adult teaching/learning principles
  • Use of nursing process and conceptual frameworks assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation
  • Communication and collaboration skills with other health professionals
  • Teamwork and leadership skills
  • Evaluation and promotion of student problem solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to critique student performance and provide meaningful feedback
  • Prioritizing and meeting competing demands/requirements of varied settings
  • Computer skills in word processing, email and internet access
