EAP Instructor - LEAP Program
Mount Royal University’s Learn English for Academic Purposes Program is hiring an instructor for the LEAP Program, a full‑time, non‑credit program for domestic and international English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners. The focus of the full‑time LEAP program is classroom‑delivered academic English courses that prepare learners for entry into post‑secondary study.
Our instructors are responsible for bringing adult education expertise and familiarity with current research in language learning to the classroom through engaging learning plans that meet the standards of the prescribed curriculum and syllabus. The successful candidate will be able to apply appropriate methods to best meet learner needs, plan activities that both engage student interest and develop skills, assess proficiency with both formative and summative tools, and communicate and collaborate professionally with others in the department.
This flexible position may be combined with other instructional opportunities within the program, including teaching in our Summer English Language Program and evening part‑time courses. These additional teaching assignments are subject to program needs and instructor availability and may provide the opportunity for increased workload and continued engagement across different program offerings.
Responsibilities- Deliver classroom‑based academic English instruction aligned with the prescribed curriculum and syllabus.
- Apply adult education expertise and current language learning research in lesson planning and teaching.
- Develop engaging learning plans and activities that build students’ academic English skills.
- Use appropriate teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs.
- Assess student proficiency using formative and summative assessment tools.
- Communicate and collaborate professionally with department colleagues.
- TESL training recognized by TESL Canada.
- Experience teaching English to adults (EAP instruction in a post‑secondary setting is preferred).
- Ability to teach across English language proficiency levels.
- Research‑informed practice in the discipline supported by continued professional development.
- Proficient with both using and supporting students and administrative processes with technology (Google Suite, MS Office, and course management software).
Salary: $30.16 - $38.18 per hour
