Canada Research Chair Tier 1 in Metabolism and Cancer Immunity, Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Infectious Diseases, Cumming School of Medicine
The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, and the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute, at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary invite applications for a Canada Research Chair Tier 1 position with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in Metabolism and Cancer Immunity. The position guarantees 75% protected time for research and offers a seven‑year term renewable once.
The successful candidate will be nominated for a Tier I Canada Research Chair and will join the department and the Cancer Institute as an active member of a multidisciplinary research environment that supports collaborative research in cancer immunology.
- Direct a collaborative research program in cancer immunology, focusing on the role of metabolic health and interventions in the tumour microenvironment and response to immunotherapy.
- Publish influential peer‑reviewed research and achieve sustained external grant funding to support the program.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, developing innovative educational approaches and coordinating courses.
- Mentor trainees at the university level and contribute to training programs through administrative and service activities within the Cumming School of Medicine.
- Build connections with investigators across the School of Medicine and the University of Calgary to advance trans‑disciplinary research initiatives.
- PhD or equivalent and postdoctoral research fellowship experience.
- Recognized leader in cancer immunology with a track record of pioneering systems or computational methodologies to study metabolic processes in tumour biology.
- Evidence of effective teaching and trainee mentorship at the university level.
- For Associate Professor candidates: evidence of leading a research program with external national/international grant funding, presentations, and publications that have influenced the field.
- For Professor candidates: established, sustained external grant funding, collaborations, presentations, and publications that have shaped the field.
- Must meet the criteria for a Canada Research Chair at the Tier I level (see government website for eligibility).
- Cover letter and curriculum vitae, including the name and contact information of three referees.
- Statement of research interests (1 page).
- Proposed 5‑year research plan for the Chair (4 pages).
- Statement on current and future efforts to incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusion into the research program (1 page).
