Position Summary
The Promotion Committee is a year-round volunteer committee dedicated to showcasing the Calgary Stampede throughout Calgary and surrounding communities. The committee supports a wide range of not-for-profit events including rodeos, military ceremonies, and community celebrations by providing a fully equipped stage at no cost, helping ensure the success of each event.
We are seeking 5–6 reliable and enthusiastic Social Media Content Creator volunteers to join the Promotion Committee’s Media Subcommittee. This role is ideal for creative individuals who enjoy capturing live event moments, producing and posting content quickly, and coaching others on best practices while serving as brand ambassadors. Volunteers in this role will work closely with Harry the Horse to showcase events, highlight volunteers, and represent the Calgary Stampede brand across all social media platforms, helping to engage the community and amplify the Stampede experience online.
Responsibilities- Monitor, manage, and actively engage with the Promotion Committee's social media channels
- Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries in a friendly, timely, and professional manner
- Maintain a consistent brand voice across all platforms, adhering to committee guidelines and standards
- Attend Calgary Stampede events throughout the year to capture, create, and share live content
- Collaborate on a monthly content calendar and contribute to creative planning sessions
- Create and curate engaging content for Instagram, Facebook, and X (Twitter), including written, photo, and video materials
- Work closely with Promotion Committee members, other Stampede committees, and the Corporate Communications team to develop compelling content to highlight the Calgary Stampede experience
- Stay current on social media trends, formats, and best practices to drive reach, engagement, and storytelling
- Collaborate with the subcommittee to evolve goals, workflows, and content standards year over year
- Ensure all content is brand-aligned, accurate, engaging, and reflective of the Calgary Stampede values
- Attend events to capture high-quality video, photography, and behind-the-scenes content in real time
- Edit and publish content efficiently, often on the same day, to support timely storytelling
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Creative, outgoing, and able to think innovatively
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong time-management abilities
- Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Active content creator with demonstrated experience producing short-form social media content (video and photography)
- Proficient in filming, editing, and publishing content using mobile devices
- Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion
- Embodies the values, spirit, and hospitality of the Calgary Stampede
- Attend four (4) Promotion Committee meetings per year (60–90 minutes each) and four (4) Social Media Subcommittee meetings per year
- During peak Stampede season (May–July), commit 10–20 hours per month to support live coverage, content creation, and event engagement
- Approximately 3 hours per month during the off-peak season
- Flexibility and reliability are key to ensuring consistent social media presence and timely content delivery
