What You’ll Do

As a Designer at Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC), you will play an essential role in driving the creative vision for our diverse apparel collections across Mark’s, Sport Chek, Sport Experts, and Canadian Tire Retail (CTR). Success in this role means embracing different mindsets — Growth, Performance, AI First, and Customer — as the foundation for how we think, behave, and collaborate.

These mindsets shape how we lead, innovate, and execute, ensuring that every decision and interaction is guided by a commitment to continuous learning, delivering results, leveraging technology, and putting the customer at the center of everything we do.

  • Research emerging fashion trends, textiles, and techniques to inspire innovative garment designs and incorporating AI into this approach.
  • Contribute to the creative seasonal strategy and storytelling, supporting the conceptualization of collections and key categories from inception through production.
  • Build and maintain seasonal presentations including presentation boards, merch sheets, and design direction collateral in collaboration with the Portfolio Manager of the Design Team Category you report into.
  • Develop sketches, digital illustrations, and technical drawings for apparel collections.
  • Shape the brand’s narrative through design and visual communication, ensuring a consistent brand voice across all products, but maintain uniqueness and differentiation between multiple brands.
  • Create and choose appropriate materials, colours, and trims, ensuring quality and suitability for each design.
  • Provide deliverables from market shop trips to share with various teams.
  • Create seasonal assortments focused on specific categories across all banners.
  • Ensure adherence to sustainability principles while contributing to ongoing improvements toward more sustainable practices.
  • Develop and execute assigned product categories within seasonal timelines to complement brand collections.
  • Support planning for long‑term key category shifts requiring Merch alignment, wear testing, and extensive lead times.
  • Integrate innovative technologies, new fabrications, styling, or details into product lines by identifying new opportunities.
  • Utilize Clo 3D software to enhance the design and development process, enabling realistic digital garment visualization, efficient prototyping, and improved collaboration across teams.
  • Challenge conventional styling, processes, or production methods by working closely with collaborative team members to bring ideas to life.
  • Provide detailed product intentions in tech packs and ensure changes are captured and up to date.
  • Ensure product details are up to date in tech packs and PLM.
  • Collaborate with technical design (TD), product development (PD) and the vendors to bring designs to life.
  • Work closely with the TD team to resolve fit style and construction issues, ensuring fully commercialised products.
  • Present initial concepts and finished designs to merchant teams for feedback and approval.
  • Adjust designs based on feedback and ensure all garments meet brand standards and market needs.
What you bring
  • Post‑secondary education in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the fashion or design industry; previous experience in fashion design or apparel development is an asset, specifically outerwear.
  • Strong artistic ability and proficiency in sketching, illustration, and design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Clo3D).
  • Knowledge and experience in PLM is an asset.
  • Deep understanding of market trends, materials, colours, technologies, and sustainability practices.
  • Knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, and textile properties.
  • Excellent communication, time‑management and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and a keen eye for colour, texture, and style.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in fashion design across various categories.
  • Must be willing and able to occasionally travel for visits to factories, market shops, attend trade shows.
