Job Brief:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate estimate reports for projects by gathering information, analyzing important metrics, and conducting regular risk assessments. These estimate duties will cover projects for multiple Control Tech branches.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develops strategic and competitive plans for each tender, including follow-up and contract negotiations.
- Interprets and analyzes project documentation for throughout understanding.
- Prepares and documents project estimates, researches and obtains cost quotes for parts, material, and labour.
- Prepares initial project estimates, including costs for labour, materials, tools, and equipment.
- Monitors awarded contracts, estimates additional work items and addresses changes.
- Monitors actual costs vs. estimated costs, addresses addendums and change orders.
- Reviews subcontract work lists periodically and maintains tendering process.
- Maintains backup files for estimate figures and assists in database maintenance.
- Develops and maintains relationships with vendors and contractors.
- Assists in maintenance and upgrade of the estimating database including analysis of field feedback on actual work performed.
- Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
- Other duties as required.
Required Skills/
Qualifications:
- Completion of a postsecondary education electrician training program.
- Bachelor's degree in construction science, engineering, construction management, or related field is considered and asset.
- Trade certification and/or P.Eng / CET, or equivalent industry experience.
- 3 years’ construction industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated ability to prepare electrical estimates for projects > 2.5M including lump-sum, target price, and unit rate pricing considered an asset.
- Journeyman electrician or certified electrician an asset; previous experience as an electrician or in this industry is required.
- Relevant estimating professional or project planning certifications and association memberships are considered an asset.
- The ability to interpret GA, PID, 3D models and cable schedules.
- Microsoft Project experience is considered an asset.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, with knowledge of municipal, provincial regulations, and industry standards.
- Strong analytical, interpretive, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Efficient time management skills.
- Strong computer skills with demonstrated experience in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
- Ability to travel to sites and builds as required.
