The Role

CANA’s Estimators play a crucial role in the company’s successful development and execution of construction projects. Estimators support both the pre‑construction and construction departments by preparing and issuing tender packages, developing estimates for all stages of a project, and maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date cost databases. The Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation of detailed estimates for concrete and formwork scopes on various pursuits and pre‑construction projects.
  • Develop and contribute to project specific execution plans, including:
  • Schedule and sequencing
  • Formwork system selection and pour breaks
  • Crew sizing and composition
  • Equipment needs and site logistics
  • Perform detailed workforce analysis to establish productivity rates, labour resources, and equipment requirements.
  • Review and evaluate various formwork designs and methodologies.
  • Calculate costs for materials, labour (per man‑hour), equipment rentals, and placing rates.
  • Define scopes of work, solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Leverage historical data (e.g., purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity reports) to inform future estimates and benchmarks.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents to define scope and submission requirements.
  • Assist in comparing conceptual estimates to actual project costs and outcomes.
  • Provide technical input to improve constructability, efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness during the estimating process.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in construction,
    with a strong focus on concrete and formwork
    .
  • 5+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor.
  • Deep knowledge of:
  • Estimating techniques, cost control, and material pricing
  • Formwork systems and sequencing
  • Crew compositions, productivity rates, and labour cost analysis
  • Equipment and access solutions for concrete placement
  • Various project delivery methods and associated risk considerations
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to interpret and analyze construction drawings, vendor quotes, and engineering documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; a team player with sharp attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in fast‑paced environments.
  • A diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, and Planswift.
