What qualifications are we looking for?
  • Alberta Daycare Qualification Certificate (Level
    3)
  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within a licensed childcare centre
  • Experience managing an effective childcare staff team
  • Exemplary skills in the planning and delivery of developmentally appropriate programs for children aged 19 months to 6 years of age
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including use of technology
  • Budget development and management
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR‑C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations:
    Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John’s Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Evidence of a cleared Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three professional references required
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

This position is full‑time and will work 40 hours per week between the hours of 7am – 6pm, Monday through Friday. Flexibility of the successful applicant’s personal schedule is required to ensure staff and area needs are met. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Reporting to the Centre Manager – Early Years (south), the Child Care Director will:

  • Complete operation and administrative responsibilities of the childcare centre
  • Demonstrate a cooperative team approach for managing centre operations including adapting personal work schedule, working in ratio and providing facility operational support (including Duty Manager shifts)
  • Provide leadership ensuring all staff and program needs are met; including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, performance management, training and recognition
  • Demonstrate a professional, customer service‑oriented approach including the effective utilization of established communication strategies for both internal and external YMCA Calgary stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance to all internal YMCA systems, policies and procedures as well as regulatory agencies including Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Licensing Act & Regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe indoor and outdoor environment
  • Achieve excellence in developmentally appropriate program delivery, including implementation of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum
