Day Camp Assistant Coordinator (Seasonal, Full-Time)

Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge

Salary: $16.40/hour - $20.56/hour

Start Date:

May 2026 (The successful candidate must be available for two full days of paid training in April)

End Date:
August 2026

Due to Camping Association Standards, Assistant Coordinator must be 18 years of age or older

What qualifications are we looking for?
  • Previous YMCA day camp or day camp experience is an asset
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations:
    Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search within 12 months
  • Three professional references
  • Available evenings and weekends in June for training
  • Available full-time weekdays from June through August
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?
  • Provide a fun, safe, and healthy environment for children registered in YMCA Calgary Day Camps
  • Provide proactive supervision and facilitate daily activities
  • Work alongside and support Day Camp Coordinator
  • Create and organize activity schedules for camps; review activity plans created by camp counsellors; implement weekly themes
  • Oversee camps;
    Support Coordinator in supervising and evaluating camp counsellors; demonstrate high standards of program quality while working directly with counsellors
  • Providing guidance, assistance, and support to counsellors
  • Assist with on-site field trip/ in house experience hazard assessments
  • Demonstrate and role model positive behavior when working with other staff, campers and members
  • Follow YMCA Calgary Policies and Procedures
  • Provide first aid when required
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of weekly staff meetings
  • Greet parents/guardians and campers on arrival and departure from camp. Providing extra assistance and daily updates as needed
  • Attend mandatory staff training prior to the start of camp
