Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Senior Accountant, Finance to join our growing company, Odyssey Trust! Our ideal candidate is someone who has a strong technical background and attention to detail. The candidate will be known for their work ethic and “can do” attitude and considers themselves to be a team player.

We pride ourselves on having a team that is knowledgeable, friendly and always willing to support each other. On a day-to-day basis you will be responsible for supporting our VP Finance, Controller and Assistant Controller, cross-training with our Assistant Controller, and covering AP, AR and Billings absences when required. You will be required to be detail oriented and able to process financial data with a very high degree of accuracy.

Key

Accountabilities
  • Prepares month-end/quarter-end/yearend (including working papers).
  • Completes margin review analysis, analyzing future earnings and expenses with Controller and Senior Leadership.
  • Assists with management of accounting and auditing within the organization.
  • Prepares and/or oversees bank reconciliations each month-end.
  • Assists with preparations for audit.
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Assisting with trouble shooting complex items encountered during monthly billing process
  • Prepare month end journal entries and other month end closing procedures for monthly compliance. (Recording investments, interest letters, deferred revenue, AFDA, bonus, other accruals etc.)
  • Prepare GST/HST estimates.
  • Make corporate and provincial tax payments, payroll taxes and other necessary payments.
  • Use accounting software to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Work alongside junior accounting staff (AR/AP etc.), mentor and train as necessary.
  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for Controller, VP Finance, CFO, CEO and upper management.
  • Assist team with Netsuite questions (Finance team and wider Company).
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • Other ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as required.
Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in accounting (U of C, SAIT, NAIT, etc.), or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Net Suite is an asset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Solutions-based attitude, answering inquiries with “yes, I can do that for you” or “let me find a way to make this happen”
  • Takes initiative, wants responsibility, and eager to learn.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency with Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and other desktop applications
