GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to monitor and operate plant processes and equipment to remove waste from water and properly disinfect the water before discharging to streams in accordance with all federal, state, and local environmental laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Monitors operating conditions of the plant including tank levels, feed and dosage rates, pump operations, sludge concentration and aeration, and chemical levels.
2. Monitors and inspects plant equipment for safety, maintenance, and proper processing operations.
3. Collects wastewater samples to perform lab analysis; maintains lab instrument calibrations and verifications.
4. Maintains plant records and prepares daily reports on plant operations; assists with DMR and NPDES permit reporting; completes inspection reports.
5. Troubleshoots problems and provides solutions to keep the plant operational.
6. Schedules and performs routine maintenance on machinery, instruments, and equipment.
7. Processes and disposes of sludge; monitors equipment for proper sludge concentration and aeration; cleans drying beds as needed; transports sludge to the landfill.
8. Operates, repairs, and maintains machinery, equipment, and tools which may include pumps, motors, generators, blowers, valves and computers.
9. Performs cleaning, repair, and maintenance tasks to keep the plant facilities, machinery, equipment, tools, and grounds in good working condition.
10. Operates equipment as trained/certified such as dump truck, skid steer, backhoe, mower, weed eater, hoist, crane, scissor lift, forklift, and front-end loader.
11. Ensures safety procedures are followed and proper safety equipment is utilized; continually monitors work environment to ensure safety of self and others.
12. May assign and/or supervise tasks with laborers, trainees, or other operators as authorized to facilitate jobs required in daily operations or maintenance of the plant and equipment; assists with employee training and mentors new trainees and/or operators as needed.
13. Communicates with supervisor, co-workers, other departments, city officials, inspectors, vendors/suppliers, state and federal agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
14. Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations and best practices.

• Ability to perform mathematical computations and measurements
• Ability to exercise sound judgment within the scope of responsibility
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public
• Must be able to meet regular attendance requirements
• Must be able to work nights and weekends
• Must be able to be on-call and respond to emergency situations
• Must be able to drive to assigned locations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
