Position Overview

The Batch Plant Operator is responsible for controlling production and load out of materials produced in the batch plant, as well as for scheduling and ensuring timely delivery of supplies to the plant to perform duties in conjunction with dispatch loading instructions. The goal is customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Batch concrete loads according to mix designs and specifications. Reads dispatch orders and understands required needs for production of materials.
  • Conduct batching operations in an efficient and safe manner while complying with all local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with job specifications and all applicable environmental and air quality regulations.
  • Produce on‑time and in‑spec concrete for the customer.
  • Print delivery tickets for each truck/load and provide copies to truck drivers for customer payment.
  • Maintain the working condition of plant equipment: greasing, sweeping, shoveling, performing repairs, cleaning, and removing jam‑ups.
  • Become proficient in all batching, dispatching and quality control software.
  • Maintain time and material records.
  • Understand appropriate uses of various mix designs.
  • Test concrete for conformance with mix design and specification.
  • Conduct moisture tests, yield calculations and adjustments of mix designs for conformance with specifications.
  • Climb manual ladder when required.
  • Follow verbal (in person and over the phone) and written instruction.
  • Organize and lead people.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

One to two years batching‑related experience is preferred.

Language Skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on radio/phone system.
Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed, but uncomplicated written or oral instructions.
  • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.

Willingness to pass ACI Level 1 certification within six months.
