Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

Newport, South Wales (commutable from Cardiff, Cwmbran & surrounding areas)
Job Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Pay: £90-£110 per day (dependent on experience)
Start Dates:
Immediate & February starts available
This is a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Newport with a strong focus on positive behaviour support and inclusion. Pupils with behavioural and SEMH needs are supported within mainstream lessons, with targeted interventions in place to help them succeed.

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who present challenging behaviour or SEMH needs, including:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- ADHD and attention regulation difficulties
- Anxiety and emotional dysregulation
- Behaviour linked to additional learning needs
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support
- Supporting pupils to regulate emotions and manage behaviour in lessons
- Implementing behaviour support plans and strategies
- Promoting positive behaviour, resilience, and engagement
- Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times
- Working closely with teachers, SENCo, and pastoral staff
- Helping maintain a safe, consistent, and inclusive learning environment
- Aspiring teachers, behaviour mentors, or SEN professionals
- Graduates in psychology, criminology, youth work, or education
- Teaching Assistants with SEMH or behaviour support experience
- Individuals with experience in mentoring, coaching, or care roles
- Career changers seeking meaningful, impactful work in education
- Experience or interest in behaviour support and SEMH
- Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils (11-16)
- A calm, resilient, and consistent approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to follow behaviour support plans and use initiative - Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
- Ability to provide two recent references
- School-based experience is beneficial but not essential — training and ongoing support provided.
Full-time, Monday to Friday (term-time only)
£90-£110 per day (pay dependant on experience, and higher rate will be for leading classroom behaviour roles)
Weekly pay (PAYE)
