Location:

Newport, South Wales (commutable from Cardiff, Cwmbran & surrounding areas)

Job Type: Full-Time, Term-Time Only

Pay: £90-£110 per day (dependent on experience)

The Role - Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who present challenging behaviour or SEMH needs, including:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • ADHD and attention regulation difficulties
  • Anxiety and emotional dysregulation
  • Behaviour linked to additional learning needs

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support
  • Supporting pupils to regulate emotions and manage behaviour in lessons
  • Implementing behaviour support plans and strategies
  • Promoting positive behaviour, resilience, and engagement
  • Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCo, and pastoral staff
  • Helping maintain a safe, consistent, and inclusive learning environment

What We're Looking For
  • Experience or interest in behaviour support and SEMH
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged pupils (11-16)
  • A calm, resilient, and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

    Ability to follow behaviour support plans and use initiative
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
  • Ability to provide two recent references
  • School-based experience is beneficial but not essential — training and ongoing support provided.
Pay & Contract

Full-time, Monday to Friday (term-time only)

£90-£110 per day (pay dependant on experience, and higher rate will be for leading classroom behaviour roles)

Weekly pay (PAYE)

Long-term role with temp-to-perm opportunities
