Position Summary
Provide instruction to elementary students in the Library Media Center, while planning and establishing the media program, goals and outcomes in accordance with building curriculum and district and state guidelines.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities- Promote literacy and the love of reading through activities such as book talks, read alouds, author visits, reading promotions, and literature activities
- Evaluate, select and order learning resources
- Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials
- Make media center resources available to support and enrich the curriculum of the building
- Inform teachers and other staff members about new learning resources the media center acquires
- Plan and supervise the distribution and storage of all media center materials and equipment
- Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials
- Help students to develop habits of independent information access, evaluation, and use of instructional materials in relation to learning outcomes
- Delete obsolete materials and resources from the collections in accordance with district policies in order to reflect changing curriculum needs of building
- Supervise the operational routines of the media center
- Supervise students, parent volunteers, and student helpers
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible
- Prepare materials for class activities
- Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors
- Maintain accurate and complete media records as required by law, district policies and administrative regulations
- Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, music and storytelling
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of books, equipment and materials
- Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the states and district
- Organize and label materials and display students' work
- Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants, volunteers, and substitute teachers
- Plan and supervise class projects and visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities
- Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional practice
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required
- Select, store, order, issue and inventory classroom equipment, materials and supplies
- Provide modifications and support for identified students as required by law and district policy
- Perform student supervisory duties such as assisting on the playground, in cafeterias, and early morning or after school car/bus loading and unloading
- Adhere to all policies of the District and the Arkansas Code of Ethics for Arkansas Educators
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the building administrator and other central office administrators, as designated by the Superintendent

- Must have the appropriate level Library Media endorsement on teaching certificate
