Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you an experienced leader ready to drive major infrastructure projects and make a tangible difference in the UK's energy landscape? Imagine yourself at the helm of multi-million-pound programmes, working alongside a talented team within a supportive, dynamic environment. As a Programme Manager with UK Power Networks, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering critical capital projects that power communities and industries across the region.

Step into a permanent role based in our Bury St Edmunds office, with an attractive salary of £94,904 and a 3% bonus.

Managing a programme valued at approximately £15 million per year, with an indirect budget of £1.5 million and direct responsibility for 10 staff, you'll oversee a multi-discipline team of around 100 professionals, including consultants, contractors, and suppliers. Your mission is to ensure the safe, compliant, timely, and commercially effective delivery of capital project schemes from inception to completion. You'll lead the development and execution of comprehensive Project and Programme Execution Plans, ensuring obligations around CDM compliance, UKPN safety systems, quality plans, and design approvals are met.

Your expertise will support robust stakeholder engagement and the implementation of best commercial and procurement practices, as well as securing consents and third-party approvals.

You'll be accountable for project set-up, management, and performance reporting, adhering strictly to governance and financial controls. By leveraging lessons learned, you'll reduce safety risks and drive consistent contract and project management, ensuring all projects are delivered within sanctioned budgets and meet environmental, health, safety, and quality standards. You'll hold Project Managers and support disciplines to account, monitor progress, and provide regular updates to the Portfolio Manager and Head of Programme Management Office.

Your leadership will be vital in managing risks and opportunities across the programme, optimising resources, and ensuring that all lessons learned are both captured and shared. You will implement engagement reviews and quality assurance in line with UK Power Networks procedures, supporting business goals and customer satisfaction. Daily, you'll make tactical decisions, mitigate change, and ensure all projects are handed over to Network Operations seamlessly and efficiently.

We are seeking candidates with a formal qualification in Project or Programme Management or an equivalent degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, alongside significant experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, practitioner-level skills in NEC and construction contracts, and a strong grasp of risk management, cost drivers, construction best practice, and project control systems are essential.

A safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH and experience with CDM regulations and British Standards would be advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Project and the Office suite is expected.

Join us and become part of a forward-thinking team responsible for delivering the Asset Portfolio Plan, collaborating with Alliance partners and direct labour teams. As Programme Manager, you'll coordinate and lead multi-disciplinary, multi-contract teams, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and all aspects of procurement, capital approval, planning, and delivery are managed to the highest standard, whether for single high-value or multiple related projects.

If you are ready to take your career to new heights and play a central role in shaping the future of the UK's energy infrastructure, apply before 05/01/2026.
