Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment.
  • Promote efficient patient flow and patient care, i.e., exams and procedures.
  • Perform clinic support tasks including miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintaining physicians schedule.
  • Support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  • Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  • Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  • Inform physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
  • Perform other administrative duties, e.g., typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, etc., as requested by supervisor or physician.
Compensation

Salary Level: $21.50–$30.00/hour.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Current CPR Certification is required.
  • Current Certified MA or Registered MA is preferred; must be willing to obtain certification/registration within 6 months of hire.
  • 2–3 years of experience preferred; oncology experience helpful.
  • One of the following is required:
    Diploma or equivalent from an accredited Medical Assistant Program, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with 1 year direct care experience.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment may occur.
