AboutThe Role
We’re recruiting confident, professional individuals to join our team as Environmental Enforcement Officers
. This is a front-line, on-the-ground role where you’ll spend your working day on foot patrol
, identifying environmental offences and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to members of the public.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being outdoors, working independently, and making a visible difference to local communities.
About UsWaste Investigations Support & Enforcement (WISE) works in partnership with Local Authorities across the UK to tackle environmental crime, including littering, fly-tipping, dog fouling and duty of care offences. Using industry expertise, trained officers and modern technology, we deliver visible, fair and effective enforcement that helps keep boroughs clean and safe.
A Day in the LifeA typical shift will involve:
- Starting your day by heading out on foot patrol across busy town centres, high-footfall areas and residential streets
- Observing public behaviour and identifying offences such as littering, dog fouling and fly-tipping
- Approaching offenders confidently and professionally to explain the offence and issue Fixed Penalty Notices
- Educating members of the public on their environmental responsibilities
- Accurately recording evidence, statements and reports using provided systems
- Working independently while remaining supported by a wider enforcement team and management
You’ll be outdoors for most of your shift and regularly engaging with the public, so confidence, resilience and professionalism are key.
What We’re Looking For- Strong communication skills and a confident, professional manner
- Resilience and the ability to handle challenging conversations calmly
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Basic IT skills (report writing)
- Reliable, proactive and detail-focused
Ability to work independently and follow procedures - A driving licence is preferred but not essential
- £14 per hour, full-time permanent contract
- 40 hours per week, Monday-Sunday shifts between 8am-6pm
- 28 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
