ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Logistics Manager to be based in our Burnaby, B.C. location. Reporting to the Logistics Director, the Logistics Manager will oversee the day‑to‑day management of trucking, rail and barging operations throughout the company. The position is critical to the delivery of several strategic level company initiatives as ABC embarks on its greatest growth phase in its history, and is a stepping‑stone role to potentially take on the position of Director, Logistics in the future.
Responsibilities- Acts as departmental lead on several ongoing projects critical to ABC meeting its medium‑term financial performance goals.
- Establishes a logistics process for transporting scrap from remote demolition and clean‑up projects to minimize costs and delays.
- Creates and implements a Logistics Management System database.
- Develops process and compliance documentation, consistent with a world‑class logistics function.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for all team members and provides regular and ongoing feedback.
- Supports and advises staff in rail car management, trucking, and barging programs of ABC.
- Manages critical week‑to‑week communications and connections with the company’s metal processing operations management and relays this information in a succinct manner to the logistics support team.
- Conducts or participates in regional planning meetings with metal processing operations leaders.
- Partners with Information Services leaders to implement new technology for logistics function.
- Provides subject matter analysis and expertise on various projects and initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in supply chain management, operations, logistics, business administration, or transportation.
- 5+ years experience in each mode of transportation management relative to asset and non‑asset based freight management on road, rail and ocean freight.
- Firm grasp of supply chain, inventory, distribution, business, and management principles.
- Strong team player.
- Understanding of transport limitations (weight and/or dimensions).
- Ability to manage, coach, and provide training for direct reports.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Working knowledge of logistics and inventory software.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
