Overview

This position works in the Bonsor 55+ Centre. This is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within a designated area of the Municipality, a specific recreational field or a multi‑purpose recreation facility including services for senior citizens and in supervising seasonal and part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers engaged in related tasks.

The Recreation Leader 2 prepares, leads and promotes interest in individual program plans and schedules and directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends any changes. Duties are performed within established program guidelines, but considerable independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the program. Enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained in the facilities or areas serviced.

The Recreation Leader 2 may be required to identify and assess facility needs and plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate a variety of programs and activities for the Bonsor Community Centre. Performs related work as required.

Responsibilities
  • Organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities for Seniors 55+.
  • Prepare, lead and promote program plans and schedules; direct the implementation of program activities.
  • Enforce rules, regulations and safety standards within facilities or areas served.
  • Identify facility needs and plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate a variety of programs and activities for the Bonsor Community Centre.
  • Supervise seasonal and part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers; recruit, train, direct and evaluate personnel as required.
  • Maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work.
  • Collaborate with staff, instructors, volunteers, associations and the public to achieve program goals.
Qualifications
  • Completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices, and the interests of Seniors 55+ along with local resources.
  • Knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed.
  • Ability to recruit, instruct, evaluate and supervise part-time recreational staff and contractual instructors; recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers.
  • Ability to organize and lead recreational, social and cultural program activities for Seniors 55+; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, instructors, volunteers, associations and the public.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work.
  • A Basic First Aid Certificate or equivalent, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification – Level C are desirable.
  • Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
  • Police Information Check may be required.
Schedule and Term
  • Schedule:

    35 hours weekly;
    Tuesday to Saturday from 9:15 AM – 5:15 PM (Mutual Agreement between Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM).
  • This is a temporary full time opportunity until June 30, 2026.
