Responsibilities
This position works in the Edmonds Community Centre Aquatic Services organizational unit. This is aquatic work in lifeguarding and instructing, on an assigned shift, at Edmonds Community Centre. An employee of a position in this class performs a variety of operational, instructional, lifeguarding, janitorial and minor maintenance tasks in offering instructional and recreational aquatic programs for all age groups. A Lifeguard/Instructor Aquatics performs these duties in accordance with established practices and procedures, exercising tact and firmness in dealing with all patrons.
The more difficult or unusual matters are referred to a supervisor who checks and reviews work performance in terms of effectiveness of the aquatic programs and services rendered and in terms of conformance with established practices and procedures. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation, supplemented by courses in lifesaving, lifeguarding, aquatic instruction and pool maintenance, plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the theory and practice of lifeguarding, lifesaving, cardio pulmonary resuscitation and first aid is required; as well as the ability to display sound aquatic skills and to instruct in these skills at standards set by relevant authorities.
A Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard – Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor, and Standard First Aid and are required. Please note that a Police Information Check is required for this position.
Appointments to regular full time, temporary full time, regular part time and temporary part time positions shall be determined by seniority as defined by the greatest length of service in the specific posted job. These appointments shall be subject to the successful passing of the skill test(s) applicable to the classification, that they are not currently subject to a performance management plan, and have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months.
ScheduleSchedule:
48 hours biweekly (0.60 FTE);
Monday from 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM;
Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 PM – 9:30 PM
