This position works in the Confederation Seniors Centre. This is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within a designated area of the Municipality, a specific recreational field or a multi-purpose recreation facility including services for senior citizens and in supervising seasonal and part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers engaged in related tasks.
The Recreation Leader 2 prepares, leads and promotes interest in individual program plans and schedules and directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends any changes. Duties are performed within established program guidelines, but considerable independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the program. Enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained in the facilities or areas serviced.
The Recreation Leader 2 may be required to identify and assess facility needs and plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate a variety of programs and activities for the Confederation Community Centre. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices as well as those of the recreational, social, educational and cultural interests, requirements and resources relating to fitness and well being in the area or Centre served.
A Recreation Leader 2 will have sound knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed. Ability to recruit, instruct, evaluate and supervise part-time recreational staff and contractual instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers. Ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social and cultural program activities; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractual instructors, volunteers, associations and the general public;
and to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work. St. John's First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required. Please note that a Police Information Check may be required for this position.
Schedule:
35 hours weekly;
Monday 1:30 PM – 9:00 PM, Tuesday to Wednesday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Thursday 1:30 PM – 9:00 PM, and Friday 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Mutual Agreement between Monday to Saturday, 8:30 AM – 9:00 PM)
