Position Overview

Our skilled trades teams play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability and integrity of our gas transmission and distribution systems. If you’re a certified welder who takes pride in craftsmanship, precision, and safe work practices, this role offers the opportunity to build and maintain high quality infrastructure that keeps communities across B.C. supplied with energy.

As a Fitter/Welder 2, you will:
  • Fabricate pressure piping and vessel systems in the shop using manual arc and gas metal arc, within the limitations of your certificate of competency.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, spool sheets and job layouts to prepare, fit, weld, and sub assemblies to verify weld and joint integrity.
  • Fabricate non pressure components and install pressure controlling devices.
  • Perform field welding on transmission and distribution systems—within certificate scope—including hot taps and leak repair welds.
  • Maintain qualifications in accordance with Company welder qualification tests and CSA Standard Z662 for Gas Transmission and Distribution Systems, including re qualification when required.
  • Meet performance expectations to progress to Fitter/Welder 1 after 12 months of experience in the position.
What you bring (must haves):
  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate of Qualification (BC ITA or equivalent from a recognized provincial authority), minimum Level

    B.
  • 5+ years of experience welding pressure piping systems or pipeline welding.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence with a safe driving record; ability to pass company driving assessments.
  • Proven experience in pipe fitting and general fabrication.
  • Ability to weld to CSA Standard Z662 and Company procedures, including SMAW and GMAW, with above average oxyacetylene welding proficiency.
  • Ability to fabricate pressure and non pressure components, interpret engineering drawings, complete fit ups, and prepare welds.
  • Ability to perform field pipeline welding (including hot taps and leak repair welds) on lines operating up to and including transmission pressures.
  • Demonstrated learning ability, manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude (as validated in evaluation tests).
  • Physically able to perform the duties: bending, lifting, field mobility, working in varied environmental conditions, and able to meet medical requirements (may require exam by Fortis

    BC Health Services or delegate).
  • Strong initiative, responsibility and sound judgment in safety sensitive environments.
Nice to have:
  • CWB Structural Welding Tickets (SMAW & FCAW)
  • Additional fabrication, instrumentation or mechanical skills.
What you need to know:
  • Work environment:
Physically demanding role involving lifting, bending, confined spaces and exposure to inclement weather.
  • Job tasks will involve both shop and field requirements.
  • Safety:
Strong adherence to safe work practices is essential; PPE and safety training provided.
  • Travel/fieldwork:
    Field welding required across the Lower Mainland system;
Class 5 license mandatory. Out of town work is limited and on voluntary basis.
  • Progression:
Eligible for reclassification to Fitter/Welder 1 after 12 months’ satisfactory performance.

Our engaging workplace offers a wide range of challenging opportunities, while being safe, inclusive, and diverse. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, while supporting life‑long career development. We also encourage volunteerism and nourish the need to give back to your community.
