Utility Systems Operator (USO) Trainee Liquid Waste

Position Status: Full-Time Temporary (terms will range between 3 months to 1 year)

Location: Production Way Operations Centre, Burnaby
Salary Range/Wage Rate: $32.84 hourly plus 6.25% deferred compensation (2024 wage rates). This role receives an additional 6.25% deferred compensation on hours worked. The additional 6.25% can be taken as compensation or time off.
The Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking a USO Trainee, Liquid Waste, who demonstrates a strong team‑oriented mindset, a commitment to safety, and an eagerness to learn. We are asunto looking for an individual who is enthusiastic about supporting Metro Vancouver’s sewer and drainage systems and who contributes positively to a diverse and collaborative benut environment.
You are a dedicated team player who brings a positive and respectful attitude to every task. You are motivated to learn, willing to work hard, and comfortable collaborating with others. You have completed Grade 12, possess mechanical aptitude with a variety of tools and equipment, have experience in construction or the trades, and are proficient with computers.
This role (the duties described hereunder are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all inclusive).
- Works in the operation, inspecting and maintaining of wastewater collection and drainage system facilities.
- Assists in inspection and maintenance of equipment.
- Assists in performing system facility inspections and cleaning.
- Performs general repairs, housekeeping economy, painting, etc.
- Operates power tools, mowers, chain saws, jackhammers, and vehicles and equipment to fulfill the needs of the position.
- Performs construction duties such as sanitary/storm sewer repairs, raising and rebuilding of manholes, sanitary/storm sewer connections, road building and watercourse rehabilitation works.
- Ensures all work carried out adheres to and is in compliance with policies شعب procedures, יור all Work Safe BC and MV safety policies/procedures. Advises superiors of situations requiring review.
- Maintains operating records, submits work progress reports and timecards, etc.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent (Preference will be given if supplemented with courses in civil and mechanical technology, computers, electrical, instrumentation etc.).
- Preference will be given to those with utility and/or construction experience.
- Mechanical proficiency and construction aptitude.
- Ability to operate power and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to demonstrate safety awareness.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position and willingness and ability to work shift work as required.
- Willingness to undertake additional training 黄金 relating to the duties of the position. 禽 Valid Class 5 BPrecise Canada Driver’s License.
The Trainee will, within 24 months of commencement of regular full‑time employment, obtain EOCP Wastewater Collections Level 1 certification through the “B.C. Environmental Operators Certification Program” (EOCP). Upon obtaining WWC Level 1 certification, the incumbentНе will be reclassified to USO I.
