The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 – $59.52 / hour.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in an emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients, collect information and plan nursing interventions.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop and modify the care plan.
  • Participate in care and discharge planning processes.
  • Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks and refer to the interprofessional team.
  • Collaborate with physicians, licensed practical nurses, and other health care professionals to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Teach patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration and maintenance.
  • Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families, and initiate referrals to community agencies.
  • Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, outcomes and referrals.
  • Participate in nursing committees, care conferences and councils.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities.
  • Attend in‑services and other educational programs, maintain current clinical competence.
  • Act as a preceptor or mentor to assigned new nursing staff and students.
  • Provide feedback to the Manager regarding the effectiveness of patient care programs and policies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM. Completion of applicable postgraduate coursework in emergency or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

    Skills and Abilities
    • Complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, public and medical staff.
    • Promote person‑centered care, empathy and patient advocacy.
    • Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problem‑solve effectively.
