The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.

Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and Fraser Health mission and values, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients.

The purpose of this position is to provide qualified registered nurses the opportunity to consolidate their skills by rotating through a specialty nursing unit(s) prior to and/or during post-graduate course work applicable to the relevant specialty nursing unit(s). Successful applicants are expected to participate in and complete applicable post-graduate specialty nursing courses/program within agreed time frames.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment. Make a nursing diagnosis and plan, perform and evaluate nursing interventions and care.
  • Collaborate with patients and families in developing care plans and encourage family participation. Establish a therapeutic relationship prioritizing privacy, dignity and autonomy.
  • Participate in discharge planning, ensure care plans are established, updated and communicated with the interprofessional care team.
  • Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals per protocols.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional care team to identify issues, adjust care plans, and respond to changes in patient condition.
  • Educate patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration and maintenance; assess learning needs and provide self-care and discharge information.
  • Initiate referrals to health care/community agencies in collaboration with the care team.
  • Document assessments, diagnoses, interventions, outcomes and referrals according to standards and Fraser Health procedures.
