We are currently hiring for Casual Registered Nurses, Older Adult – Acute Care for Elders at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, B.C.
Salary: CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to acutely ill elderly patients.
Responsibilities- Assess patients within an acute care unit for elders, collecting information from a variety of sources, making nursing diagnoses and determining appropriate interventions.
- Collaborate with patients and family/caregivers in developing care plans and encouraging family participation.
- Participate in care and discharge planning, updating plans, and communicating with the interprofessional team and Patient Care Coordinator.
- Coordinate nursing care, set priorities, delegate tasks to support staff, and make referrals according to established protocols.
- Collaborate with interprofessional care team members to identify and resolve issues, adjust care plans, and address changes in patient condition.
- Teach patients and families/caregivers about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance to support health goals.
- Plan and discuss referral information with patients and families, initiating appropriate referrals to health care/community agencies.
- Document assessments, diagnoses, observations, interventions, outcomes, and referrals according to practice standards.
- Participate in committees, conferences, and councils as assigned.
- Participate in research and quality improvement activities to identify patient care issues and recommend changes.
- Attend in‑services and other educational programs, set learning goals, and maintain clinical competence.
- Act as preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students.
- Provide feedback regarding patient care programs, policies, and equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience: Graduation from an approved school of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) year recent related acute care experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities- Complete patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate interventions.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, the public, medical staff and interprofessional team.
- Promote person‑centered care and demonstrate empathy for patients and families.
- Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to solve problems effectively.
- Teach and instruct patients and families about health topics essential to geriatric care.
- Organize and prioritize work.
- Collaborate with and promote cooperation among team members.
- Use factual information and evidence to support nursing decisions.
- Operate related equipment and computer applications.
- Physical ability to perform job duties.
