We are looking for a talented, hardworking, dedicated person to join our growing team and support the future expansion of the business.

We are looking for a Shake & Shingle Inspector and Millwright Technician to support the Inspection Department at our Burnaby, BC location. The shake & shingle inspection portion is expected to take 1.5-2 days per week and the other 3-3.5 days per week would be spent in the Burnaby lab assisting with building and maintaining test equipment.

The ideal candidate for this position would be someone who is very motivated, assertive and would have worked as a millwright (or similar role) in a shake & shingle mill (or similar environment) where they have an understanding of lumber grading rules. Candidates without lumber grading experience will be trained in this aspect. The successful candidate will need to be open to travel (mostly BC) and have flexibility in their work schedule to support the business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Shake & Shingle Inspector
    • Perform grading inspection of cedar shakes and shingles at the mill.
    • Complete inspection reports and follow up on corrective actions.
    • Coordinate inspection activities with clientele.
    • Become knowledgeable of all shake and shingle grading rules and the relevant standards.
    • Comply with internal quality and HR policies.
  • Millwright Technician
    • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on test equipment to ensure optimal and continual performance.
    • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair test equipment.
    • Fabricate and weld parts as needed for repairs or modifications.
    • Read and interpret standards, technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
    • Collaborate with other stakeholders to design and build test equipment, analyze equipment malfunctions, and develop effective solutions.
    • General building maintenance and repair
    • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Millwright or in a similar industrial maintenance role
  • Has a technical diploma or combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Experience working with low-voltage systems and electrical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and standards.
  • Skilled in welding and fabrication techniques
  • Experience designing and building mechanical control equipment.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and data recording is an asset.
  • Be able to work with limited supervision.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office software and have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Safe working practice with tools
  • Ability to grasp general concepts in a field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.
  • Ability to accept instruction and follow directions
  • Ability to multi-task multiple test programs with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Have a valid driver’s license and able to travel
  • Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.
