Accountability and Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the general manager, perform a variety of routine maintenance, service and repair operations to maintain facility, equipment, furnishings, fixtures and grounds in accordance with applicable guidelines, codes, vision, values and standards of Verve Senior Living.
  • Work with Housekeeping to ensure residents’ needs are met and that building quality, cleanliness and safety standards are upheld.
  • Establish and manage a preventative maintenance program, including inspections (daily, weekly, monthly, annual), periodic testing of life safety systems, and keeping required records as per Diversicare/Verve policies and procedures.
  • Respond to service requests promptly and maintain records of services provided.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to refurbish suites to optimal condition for new move-ins, and ensure any damage costs are invoiced to the previous tenant.
  • Cooperate with other departments to assist residents with maintenance needs, moving and storing supplies, and being available and flexible to resident and family needs as required.
  • Monitor service contracts and warranties to ensure equipment and environment conform to applicable codes and regulations; ensure external contractors provide proof of WCB and criminal records checks.
  • Maintain accurate control of all Master keys.
  • Perform outside work as needed, including gardening, snow removal, and dealing with environmental spills.
  • Contribute to fire prevention, infection control and pest control programs; ensure regular fire drills are conducted and documented where applicable.
  • Support all departments to increase efficiency and resident occupancy.
  • Participate in leadership activities and contribute to the overall operations of the residence in alignment with the vision and values of Verve Senior Living.
  • Participate in strategic planning, operations meetings and Verve Quality Improvement (VQI); provide input for policy and procedure modifications.
  • Participate in and support financial management of the residence, including capital and operating budgeting, inventory and variance reporting.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of grade 12.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and first aid.
  • Certificate in building operations and/or 2-3 years’ experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Computer skills (proficient in Word and Excel; familiar with online ordering systems and electronic building systems).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (e.g., Verve Senior Living Competencies).
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals and drawings related to equipment and systems and audit/deficiency standards.
  • Ability to organize, multitask and meet physical demands, including problem solving and handling emergency situations.
  • Attention to detail and task orientation; ability to meet targets and deadlines.
