HSA is looking for an experienced individual to fill the temporary, full-time position of Legal Counsel in the Legal Services Department at its office in New Westminster, British Columbia until September 30, 2027, or until return of incumbent.
Under the general direction of the Membership Services Coordinator - Legal, the Legal Counsel will represent HSA and HSA members before: external organizations, a range of administrative bodies, and all levels of court. HSA’s Legal Counsel also provides legal resources, as required, to other labour relations staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Represent HSA and HSA members before the Labour Relations Board, professional bodies, in arbitration hearings, and before other administrative tribunals
- Represent HSA and HSA members at all levels of Court
- Coordinate and strategize in relation to complex litigation files
- Represent HSA to external organizations including Government, employer associations, bargaining associations, and other trade unions
- Serve as an internal resource on legal and labour relations matters to labour relations staff, and provide education as required
- Other duties as assigned
- A minimum of five years’ litigation experience, including presenting cases before the courts, Labour Relations Board, arbitrators, and administrative tribunals
- Membership in the Law Society of BC is required
- Must be free to travel
This position also requires an ability to travel anywhere in the province.
Possession of a valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required.
Salary Range: $ annually, based on a 36.83-hour average work week as per the HSASU/HSA Collective addition to a competitive salary, HSA offers a generous total compensation package that includes extended health and dental benefits, life insurance, income protection, pension plan, wellness and Employee Assistance programs, commuting support, and educational opportunities.
