Salary: $72,479.17 – $83,518.06 Annually

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Insurance Programs, the Insurance Program Specialist manages a suite of insurance programs including self‑insurance, fleet insurance, property insurance, construction liability, commercial premises and operating insurance. Responsibilities include investigating, negotiating and settling claims; assessing insurance risk exposure; drafting policy wording and contractual clauses; evaluating insurance requirements; liaising with insurance companies, brokers, the Ministry of Finance’s Risk Management Branch, legal counsel and internal stakeholders.

The role also delivers training, drafts guidelines and procedures, and fosters stakeholder relationships.

Candidate Profile Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Management, Public Policy, Risk, or related field.
  • Certifications:

    Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB), or Canadian Risk Management (CRM).
  • Considerable experience in insurance, claims management or equivalent.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Deep knowledge of insurance program administration, products, claim processes and regulatory environment.
  • Project management, time management and prioritization skills.
  • Basic budgeting and procurement knowledge.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data‑analytics/reporting tools such as Tableau, Power

    BI, Mural and Visio.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, including documentation design.
  • Awareness of equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles.
  • Sound judgement for risk assessment and escalation to leadership.
  • Travel capability on occasion.
