Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

This position works in the Property Use Coordination organizational unit. This role involves community relations and regulatory field administrative work to ensure public compliance with property use, building and licensing bylaws, and mediating related civil issues. Responsibilities include investigating and resolving property misuse complaints, mediating neighbourhood disputes and licensing complaints, interpreting and providing advice on property use, licensing, noise or sound abatement, and other bylaw requirements;
inspecting businesses for proper licensing; analyzing and recommending property tax exemptions; inspecting buildings, dwelling units, and construction sites to identify violations of city bylaws and taking remedial action or initiating legal action; preparing correspondence including reports for presentation to Council, reviewing Council reports and recommending action on relevant items.
Applicants should possess a high degree of tact and diplomacy, and considerable independence of judgment and action, particularly in dispute mediation and misuse investigations.
Qualifications include post‑secondary education, preferably a university degree, with courses in oral and written communications, public relations, and technical subjects related to building regulations; and considerable related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of relevant bylaws, Acts, and regulations; ability to interpret and explain applicable bylaws; read site plans and drawings; investigate alleged illegal occupancies; prepare correspondence and reports;
gather evidence and prepare information for prosecution; act as a witness in court; and provide information, advice, and assistance concerning related bylaws and regulations. A valid driver's licence for British Columbia is required.
