Job Description
AECOM is hiring a Structural Engineering Lead for their Highway Engineering Team in Burnaby, BC. We support flexible work location including remote and hybrid models.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Leading structural engineering practice in BC for highway engineering projects.
Delivering of high quality and cost-effective structural evaluation and design solutions for highway projects.
Developing and managing with minimal guidance or supervision, the BC highway structural engineering team including engineers, inspectors, technicians, and structural CAD specialists with expertise including structural design documents and contract deliverables.
Supervising licensed and non-licensed professionals including assignment of work, mentoring, performance planning and development in the field of structural engineering and provincial bridge engineering standards and best practices
Supervising and/or providing structural assessments including, condition, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and functional needs, life cycle costing, and renewal options analysis.
Supervising and/or providing structural inspection and assessment reports including having the ability to travel province wide, on a short notice, for emergency response or to assess the structural integrity of highway infrastructure.
Project managing assignments from planning through design and construction including leading project meetings, developing scope, schedule & budget and collaborating with the design team and client.
Supervising or providing structural designs for mid to large, complex, multi-modal and major highway expansion projects involving functional, preliminary, and detailed designs and coordinating professional, engineering services involving other key highway engineering disciplines such as drainage, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, environment, geometrics, traffic, safety, and electrical
Supervising or providing engineering services during construction and project close out with record drawings.
Building client relationships through performance, service, effective communication, and by identifying and meeting client needs.
Delivering structural design deliverables through internal and external sources including designs, workplans, cost estimates, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic and working drawings.
Maintaining the quality management system for structural engineering design projects including quality control and assurance procedures, checks and independent reviews at different phases of designs.
Providing advice and leadership to project teams and clients.
Managing resources for the delivery of concurrent projects of substantial scopes, and coordinating shared resources with other AECOM offices across Canada to provide efficient delivery of structural design projects
Leading proposal development and teaming for design assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM and subconsultants.
Supervising or providing the delivery of design and construction phases status reports for client and project teams.
Supervising or providing field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.
Supervising and/or preparing documents addressing regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
Proposing opportunities and assisting with business development for the BC highway engineering team.
Implementing corporate policies related to quality management, risk assessment and sustainable legacies while supporting AECOM’s vision, values, and key business development priorities.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering
8 years progressive experience as professional of record.
4+ years of leading or managing structural engineering team.
Experienced with the applications of Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), BC Supplement to CHBDC and the BC MOTT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction
