AECOM Buildings + Places sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our Burnaby, BC office with opportunities for hybrid work.

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building’s engineering disciplines, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to:
Transit and Municipal, Commercial, and Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.

As a Mechanical Technologist , you will play an integral role in supporting the design, coordination, and delivery of building systems across diverse projects. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and project teams across Canada, contributing to mechanical design development, documentation, and field support.

Major Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:

  • Conduct drafting / 3D Revit BIM for building mechanical systems.

  • Prepare mechanical system layouts and detailed design drawings using drafting/3D BIM tools.

  • Translate sketches, notes, and mark-ups into high-quality, finished design documents

  • Assist in developing engineering calculations, equipment schedules, and coordination with other disciplines

  • Support the preparation of the project specifications and maintain project documentation including quality review documentation and drawing packages.

  • Supporting drawings packages preparation and submission.

  • Ensure conformance with code requirements, quality standards, and project-specific performance criteria

  • General understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.

  • Works in engineering project collaboration software platforms (i.e., Project Wise, BIM
    360, Autodesk Construction Cloud).

  • Self-checks on drawings and models prior to submission.

  • Support with field inspection and construction administration as needed.

  • Works in team-based environment that involves coordination with colleagues in different disciplines based in different offices

  • Work with limited supervision while meeting defined milestones and deadlines

  • Work both in office and field settings

    Qualifications

    In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:

  • College diploma in Engineering Technology + 4 (four) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Proficient in 3D Revit/BIM drafting

  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

  • Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT,

    C.Tech or CET designation, or working towards certification

  • Able to develop and advance drawings from conceptual to detailed design stage.

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Familiar with software such as:
    AutoCAD or later and Autodesk Revit Family/BIM Software

  • Familiar with BC building code, ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62.1, NFPA 13, and other relevant design standards
