Program Leader (Summer Camps and Playgrounds)

Duration: Auxiliary
Pay Rate: $25.22 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits (2024 Rates)
Location: Various Burnaby locations.
Hours of work: This is an auxiliary position; hours and shifts are based on operational requirements and do not provide guaranteed hours of work. Shifts may vary throughout the week from Monday – Saturday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service and lead a variety of social, cultural, sport, fitness, and general interest activities, including Summer Camps and Playgrounds.
- Plan, schedule, implement, and lead activities.
- Direct volunteers and assistants by providing guidance and assistance, performing general leadership duties as required by the program.
- Prioritize safety by enforcing rules and regulations regarding proper use of equipment and facilities.
- Perform related work as required.
- Completion of grade 11.
- Related experience, preferably in municipal recreational work.
- Supervisory experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Working knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices, including safe and proper use of equipment and facilities.
- Ability to plan, schedule, implement, and lead assigned recreational programs and provide guidance to subordinates regarding instructional duties.
- First Aid Certificate and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification – Level C are required.
- Police Information Check may be required.
- Desired qualifications: Experience in coaching, camp counselling, leading Scouts or Guides, tutoring, or volunteering in a recreation or childcare environment;
Education and training including Recreation Leadership or Therapeutic Recreation Diplomas, Teacher Certification (PDP), Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, High Five(R); experience working with children and youth with extra needs.
Copies of relevant professional certificates, degrees, or tickets will be required at the time of the interview.
