About the RoleSpecial Collections and Rare Books is home to a broad range of rare and unique content, including personal and organizational archives, manuscript collections, books, photographs, sound recordings and other formats. We acquire material to support research, teaching and learning at SFU and beyond.
This role will support the work of Special Collections and Rare Books by providing reference service for users, including faculty, staff, students, and members of the public. They will ensure that security is maintained and users adhere to requirements regarding safe handling, privacy, and other restrictions. The successful candidate will create library catalogue records and finding aids for archival and manuscript holdings.
They will identify, prepare, and organize materials for digitization, including assigning metadata to digital objects. They will implement outreach strategies including exhibits and events to promote community engagement. They will contribute to policy revision and the development of workflows.
High school graduation and two years of post‑secondary education or completion of a Library Technician Program or formal certificate/diploma program equivalent.
3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.

- After 4 consecutive months in the position, pay in lieu of benefits is increased to 20%
