Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

The B.C. Centre for Agritech Innovation (BCCAI) housed at SFU empowers producers, processors, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to develop and adopt agritech solutions that enhance productivity, competitiveness, and resilience within B.C.’s agriculture and agrifood sectors. By de-risking innovation and technology adoption, BCCAI ensures that agri-businesses continue to bring innovative products, processes, and services to the market faster, strengthening food security, sustainability, and economic growth for the province.

About the Role

The Agronomy Consultant is responsible for providing technical expertise to BCCAI to support the development, piloting, and commercialization of technologies and to position SFU as a leader in the field of Agritech. The role works as a key liaison at the nexus between clients and researchers, providing advice and guidance to develop proposals, products, and technology or service solutions to ensure the successful achievement of project deliverables.

The consultant will also support the delivery of training and upskilling programs and initiatives co-created with BCCAI partners and services as contracted by industry and sector partners. The consultant maintains knowledge and expertise in current industry practices, products, technologies, research, and services to formulate solutions for agri-food producers that deliver desired outcomes.

The ideal candidate is an applied agronomy expert who excels at bridging research, industry, and on-farm practice. They bring strong scientific training, deep knowledge of crop and soil systems, and practical experience designing, evaluating, and interpreting agricultural trials. They communicate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences and build trusted relationships with producers, researchers, and industry partners. Highly organized and solutions-oriented, they navigate regulatory frameworks, manage multi-stakeholder projects, and deliver evidence-based recommendations that support innovation adoption.

They demonstrate curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to advancing sustainable, productive, and technology-enabled agriculture in B.C.
