Accounts Payable Technician

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Accounting Officer, the Accounts Payable Technician ensures that accounts payable policies and procedures are met and supports BC Housing’s decentralized accounts payable structure. The role includes reviewing and approving construction claims, conducting reviews and audits of payments and invoices processed by other business areas, and leading compliance audits of employee expense claims. The technician processes the accounts payable cycle in compliance with BC Housing’s Accounting Procedures, resolves voucher‑to‑purchase order and payment discrepancies, creates payments, and supports month‑end and year‑end accounting activities.

Profile

Education & Experience

  • Post‑secondary diploma in finance and accounting or another relevant discipline.
  • Considerable accounts payable experience in a high‑volume computerized environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Sound knowledge of accounting and accounts payable principles.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer‑service skills, including tact and diplomacy in stressful situations.
  • Excellent time‑management skills and ability to work under pressure; ability to plan ahead for critical dates.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency with figures.
  • Ability to learn mission‑critical corporate enterprise applications.
  • Discretion, sound judgment, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in standard word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other relevant applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
  • Ability to learn a variety of systems and applications.
