SUMMARY

The Program Director, Fire/EMS responsibility includes instructional leadership in all phases of the Fire and EMS programs and will act as a liaison between all communities of interest and the programs. The Program Director oversees class schedules, selection of textbooks, writing syllabi, curricular changes, evaluation, continuous improvement and accreditation pertaining to the program.

This position reports to the Dean, School of Protective & Human Services and has supervisory responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Development

  • Manage recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation processes to align with the college's vision, mission, values and strategic plan.
  • Provide constructive feedback and development plans, fostering an environment of trust and empowerment as a servant leader to support staff growth and well-being.

Program Management

  • Regularly evaluate program effectiveness ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Oversee clinical and field internships preceptors and supervise American Heart Association disciplines.
  • Facilitate meetings to advance program objectives, collaborate with advisory committees to align with industry standards, and coordinate testing processes to ensure examination integrity and rigor.
  • Coordinate academic programs and student outcomes and activities within the department.
  • Identifying long‑range planning and ongoing development for program vitality.

Administrative and Operational Duties

  • Manage and oversee purchasing for the programs, ensuring compliance with institutional, state and grant requirements/guidelines.
  • Provide strategic oversight of social media accounts for program promotion and alignment with marketing goals.
  • Conduct reviews annually for policies and procedure changes from the WTCS and accreditation entities to maintain compliance and stay up to date with testing requirements.
  • Serve as the designated Fire District Coordinator, representing the institution in district matters and effectively communicating and collaborating.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Regularly review and optimize processes to eliminate redundancy and enhance overall efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 4,000 hours of paid documented experience as a Paramedic with at least 2,000 hours of demonstrated relevant occupational experience within the last five years.
  • Current licensure (or ability to obtain) as an EMS Instructor I or II issued by the State of Wisconsin-Department of Health Services-Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Section.
  • Current licensure as a Wisconsin Paramedic or Nationally Registered Paramedic able to secure Wisconsin licensure.
  • Current (ability to obtain) certification as an AHA ACLS Instructor PLUS a second EMS Instructor credential in an EMS field (examples include:
    Basic Life Support CPR, GEMS – Geriatric EMS, PHTLS – Prehospital Trauma Life Support, BTLS – Basic Trauma Life Support or PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
  • Fire Certification and Emergency Services Instructor (ESI) 1 or ability to obtain within 12 months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience as a firefighter, fire inspector, fire officer.

Other Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledgeable about methods of instruction, testing and evaluation of students.
  • Working experience with computer software systems.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of related students.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
