This position co-coordinates the City of Burlington Community Justice Center’s Reentry programming, including the Circles of Support & Accountability program, Resource Navigation and work in the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility as a priority. This position also includes assisting in the coordination of the adult restorative pre-charge and reparative restorative processes.

Pay Grade: 16: $30.48 - $33.97 Hourly

Remote Tier 3: Up to two (2) days remote/week

Reentry
  • Monitor and manage all referrals to Offender Reentry Program in collaboration with the reentry team.
  • Plan implementation of 12 to 16 COSAs including outlines for: meeting Department of Corrections’ grant requirements, adhering to victim safety protocol and any expectations laid out by the City of Burlington.
  • Recruit, screen, train and match COSA volunteers with appropriate core members, being mindful of creating a team with identities that will support and encourage growth and accessibility for the core member
  • Collaborate with local and central office Department of Corrections staff to ensure timely and appropriate referrals for COSA
  • Participate in weekly COSA meetings and meeting debriefs with volunteers.
  • Attend monthly COSA case review meetings with Burlington Probation and Parole (BUPP) staff to review and discuss current COSA’s and potential participants in program
  • Meet with potential participants at the correctional facilities, explain program expectations and benefits, obtaining signed releases of information.
  • Reach out to and develop working relationships with organizations who support the different identities living within Chittenden County, to promote the services and volunteer opportunities of the program.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervising Probation Officers of the participants
  • Immediately report any violations of conditions of reentry program participants to the supervising Probation Officer and CJC supervisor.
  • Participate in regional collaborative meetings with other reentry coordinators, including periodic trainings offered to new volunteers
Navigation
  • Provide time-limited resource navigation support to individuals who are re-entering or have already released to the community, including soft referrals to community-based resources including counseling, substance use services, community medical care, food resources, transportation, basic needs
  • Network with local community-based resources and services
In-Facility Work
  • Present restorative justice workshops, trainings, and re-entry services in Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility
  • Coordinate with Women’s Honor’s Unit in planning facility-wide trainings
  • Provide trainings on restorative justice to CRCF staff
  • Assist in resolving conflict when appropriate.
  • Periodically check in with case managers, honors unit staff, and facility superintendent regarding facility training needs for staff and individuals under supervision
Pre-Charge and Reparative Process Coordination
  • Provide staff support to the restorative justice processes, including but not limited to: scheduling, organizing and facilitating meetings, supporting the participation of volunteers, and following through on data and policy needs presented by the cases.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with relevant stakeholders including those in criminal-legal systems (Burlington, UVM and Winooski Police departments, State’s Attorney’s Office, VT Dept. of Corrections, VT Center for Crime Victim Services), and community-based providers
  • Support victims of crime and harm, helping them navigate the criminal-legal system, advocating for services when they experience barriers, and connecting them to processes, goods and services that will enhance their safety and lessen the impacts of their crime. Provide support and validation to affected parties whether or not they choose to participate in a restorative process.
  • Support those who have caused harm by creating conditions that allow for them to take responsibility for their actions, and to actively make amends using a restorative justice process.
