System Director, HIM & Coding

Overview

The UVMH System Director HIM & Coding is responsible for strategic design, implementation management, and governance of UVMH systems and operations of multiple middle revenue cycle functions, including Health Information Management (HIM) Operations, Hospital Coding, Professional Coding, Identity/Data Integrity, ROI (internal and vendor), the Tumor Registry (outsourced) and Transcription Services (outsourced) teams across UVMH. The Director HIM & Coding sets the strategic plan for both operations and systems, develops and implements enterprise‑wide solutions, and ensures operational standardization, optimization and excellence.

The role achieves financial and operational targets, directs complex business processes across multiple service areas, campuses, locations, and hours of operation, and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations and best practice quality.

The Director HIM & Coding develops efficient and effective workflows, establishes system and organizational goals and objectives, implements improvements in a collaborative, cost‑effective and efficient manner, and oversees HIM teams across UVMH, including sites in Vermont and New York.

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Finance, Business Administration, Health Care Services or Computer Science.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred; significant experience may be substituted in addition to RHIT Certification.

• At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in a health care setting with a minimum of 7 years management experience required.
• Management experience in revenue cycle operations and application strategy.
• Excellent track record for managing complex operational processes and systems integration in a complex health care environment.
• Experience in business cycle redesign strongly recommended.
• Epic experience required.
