Overview

Tax Advisor – REMOTE role. Availability to travel to Montreal once per year and to Vermont up to three times per year, as business needs require; only considering candidates from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and New York.

The Corporate Tax Advisor will help the organization and its subsidiaries manage tax risks within the NNEEC consolidated group, maintain compliance with local, state and federal tax regulations, and support the organization in preparing consolidated and standalone federal and state tax returns for NNEEC and its subsidiaries. The role requires strong tax experience, clear communication, and collaboration skills to work with a complex and evolving group of organizations to ensure tax compliance and effective application of tax rules.

Responsibilities
  • Tax Compliance:
    Prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for the utility company, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Tax Provision & Reporting:
    Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions, including ASC 740 compliance, for utility-related operations.
  • Tax Remittance Management:
    Prepare tax-related deposits and ensure timely and accurate remittance of tax payments.
  • Tax Forecasting:
    Participate in the tax forecasting process by preparing projections of the company’s tax obligations, assessing potential impacts from new tax laws or business changes, and advising senior leadership on tax strategies to optimize future cash flow.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Prepare reporting for utility-specific tax regulations, including energy, state and local tax, and environmental tax issues.
  • Tax Strategy & Planning:
    Develop and implement tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities, manage risks, and optimize benefits within the utility industry.
  • Audit Support:
    Lead and coordinate tax audits, collaborating with external auditors, tax authorities, and legal teams to resolve issues and ensure favorable outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    Work with finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to support business initiatives, capital projects, and expansion plans while ensuring tax efficiency.
  • Research & Legislative Monitoring:
    Monitor federal and state tax law changes, including utility-specific tax incentives or regulatory changes, and assess their impact on the company.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance. 1–2 years of tax accounting/advisory experience (multistate utility experience is a plus).
  • Strong technology aptitude to learn and leverage technology solutions for communication, analysis, and efficient workflows. Excel experience required. The company also utilizes Longview and the financial systems are on Oracle and SAP.
