Overview
The Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer position in Biomedical Engineering, with an expected start date of August 24, 2026 for Fall Semester. We seek highly motivated individuals who are excited to lead the instructional components of a biomedical innovation and design curriculum that spans all four undergraduate years.
Applicants should be able to teach courses in engineering design in addition to developing and instructing courses in their technical areas of expertise. Applicants with backgrounds from across the biomedical engineering field, and particularly those with industry, research, or development experience in biomedical innovation are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
Candidates with significant related experience may be considered for a Senior Lecturer appointment.
This hire would serve as an instructional leader in UVM’s Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI; https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) and interface with the newly opened Bio Labs Innovation Center at UVM (https://), which supports entrepreneurs to scale up research and development. In addition to broadly supporting academic research commercialization, the CBI aims to address pressing challenges in rural medicine, environmental sustainability in healthcare, as well as the training of future Med Tech inventors and business leaders.
In collaboration with UVM Innovations, Colleges across the campus, and the regional industry, the CBI serves as an experiential learning hub for students seeking access to real-world innovation projects. From engaging with local healthcare providers to collaborating with Vermont’s growing technology and innovation ecosystem, the CBI provides a platform for students to make a tangible impact beyond the classroom. This role will help strengthen those connections, ensuring that our graduates are prepared to lead in the evolving landscape of biomedical technology and healthcare innovation.
This hire complements the Biomedical Engineering Program at UVM, which leverages strong curricular and research ties with the University’s Larner College of Medicine and the University of Vermont Health, located nearby on campus to the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences. The BME Program values interdisciplinary research and innovative approaches to engineering education, as illustrated by a new undergraduate curriculum focused on design thinking and active learning.
The BME major enjoys high student enrollment and a strong culture of undergraduate design and research. With this hire, the BME program seeks to deepen or expand expertise in rural healthcare, biomechanics, bioimaging, biomaterials, regenerative medicine, protein engineering, computational modeling, and drug delivery.
