Job OverviewThe Sensory Scientist will use knowledge of consumer and analytical sensory methods to lead research for innovation and renovation initiatives, as well as participate in the development of sensory and consumer capabilities. The role involves extensive interaction with Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Quality, and Regulatory to deliver business objectives.
Responsibilities- Deliver sensory research within R&D, meeting business objectives, driving standards, consistency and ensuring excellence in research
- Provide feedback to appropriate cross‑functional team members and customers; report findings, communicate next steps, actively participate in project meetings and ensure delivery of commitments and milestones
- Independently design sensory experiments and create research plans aligned with business priorities
- Apply design of experiments to sensory evaluation testing
- Interpret statistical analysis of sensory evaluation results
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and emerging technologies in sensory methodology
- Generate high‑quality, robust, compliant data and reports; support improvement of standardized sensory practices, protocols and processes across functions
- Collaborate with other Sensory Scientists and Product Developers to use internal panels for product development
- Communicate clearly and concisely to audiences with varying understanding of Sensory Science
- Prioritize work and manage through complexity and ambiguity
- Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in adapting to changing business needs
- Build trust, maintain positive, professional relationships, and strengthen a culture of inclusion
- Exhibit passion for innovation, results‑driven mindset, and ownership of work
- Salary Range: $76,400 – $115,000 (placement within range may vary based on experience, skills, and other factors)

- Annual bonus based on performance and eligibility
- BS (or MS) degree in an accredited university (Food Science, Sensory Science, Statistics, etc.)
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in the Sensory field
- Minimum 3 years experience with sensory research software (e.g., Compusense)
- Beverage industry experience (especially coffee) preferred; panel lead experience a plus
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
- Fluency in discrimination, descriptive and consumer test methods; experience applying experimental design and statistics to sensory research
